Kelly Pioneer Cemetery

Kelly Pioneer Cemetery Kelly Pioneer Cemetery

Location: Heritage Road

This is a small pioneer cemetery about which little is known. This cemetery was a small family burial plot and doesn't have a church connection. A John Kelley received a land grant in1802, one of the very earliest settlers in Haldimand Township. There is evidence of early fieldstone marking burial spots but the first known burial is Harriet Hawkins in 1847. The last is Morice Jaynes May in 1876.

Only 14 burials have been identified: 5 with the name KELL(E)Y, 2 JAYNES and 7 HAWKINS.

The cemetery is maintained by the Heritage Cemeteries Advisory Board.
